Troubleshooting & FAQs

Use the sections below to identify your issue and follow the recommended steps. If you are unsure, contact our support team and send clear photos of your vehicle plugs/wiring.

1. Power Cable Not Compatible / Doesn’t Fit

Issue: The power cable does not match the original car plug.

Solution:

  1. Large Quadlock plug:
You can directly use our standard power cable.
  2. ISO plug:
You will need the special Plug-B for ISO.
    View Plug-B for ISO
  3. MQB plug:
You can connect it directly to our head unit without using our power cable.

Reference: Quadlock / ISO / MQB plug types

2. Original Car Wiring Modified / Aftermarket Wiring

Issue: The vehicle wiring has been modified (aftermarket wiring or customized harness), which may cause incompatibility—especially CAN signal mismatch.

Solution:

  1. Contact our customer service team.(service@scumaxcon.com)
  2. Send a clear photo of your original car plug and current wiring setup.
  3. We will confirm the correct adapter / wiring solution for your vehicle.

Note:

For POLO 2009-2017

For some Volks-wagen Polo models produced between 2009 and 2017, the original racarried out modifications: an adapter was added to the original head unit plug

(as shown in the figure below). lf this connector is directly connected to theRCD360 head unit, a CAN bus communication failure will occur.

3. Car Battery Drain / Stereo Cannot Fully Power Off

Issue: The stereo does not fully shut down after turning off the ignition. Symptoms may include:

  • The stereo can still be powered on after removing the car key.
  • Button backlight stays illuminated.
  • CarPlay / Android Auto remains connected when the vehicle is off.

Cause: This is usually not caused by the head unit. It is commonly related to an outdated CAN Gateway version that does not transmit the shutdown signal correctly.

Diagnosis checklist:

  1. Headlight sync test:
Turn the headlight knob on/off and check if the stereo button backlight turns on/off accordingly.
If yes, CAN signal is partially working.
  2. Bluetooth test:
    Check whether Bluetooth works normally.
If yes, some CAN signals are working, but shutdown communication may be missing.

Solution: Use our yellow “power drain fix wire”.

  1. If the yellow wire was not included in your package, contact us and we will send it free of charge.(service@scumaxcon.com)
  2. Follow the wiring instruction video below to connect the yellow wire correctly.
4. Steering Wheel Buttons (8-Button Type) Not Working

Issue: Steering wheel controls do not work on vehicles equipped with the 8-button steering wheel (see reference image).

Cause: This steering wheel type usually requires an additional steering wheel control decoder (CAN simulator) to communicate correctly with the head unit.

Required Part:

YX2219 – Steering Wheel Control Simulator / Decoder

Note: If You Also Experience Battery Drain

In some cases, installing the YX2219 decoder can help improve CAN communication and may reduce battery drain.

If battery drain still occurs after installing the decoder, please use our yellow power drain fix wire.

5. Poor FM/AM Signal / Incompatible Antenna Plug

Issue: Radio receives weak or no FM/AM signal. Symptoms may include:

  • Weak or no signal
  • Very few stations during auto-scan
  • Static or noise during playback

Product specs:

  • AM: 530 – 1600 KHz
  • FM: 87.5 – 108 MHz

Possible causes & solutions:

  1. Check antenna connection and orientation:
    • Our default antenna plug is compatible with most vehicles.
    • If the signal is poor, try flipping/reversing the antenna connector direction and ensure it is firmly connected.
  2. Adapter required for some models:
If your original antenna plug looks like the reference image below, you may need an additional adapter.

6. Reverse Camera Not Working

Issue: The rear camera does not display properly or does not activate when shifting into reverse.

Important Check (Before Troubleshooting)

  1. Please confirm you selected the RCD360 PRO3S version with rear camera function activated. If you purchased the deactivated version, the rear camera function can be activated via VCDS.
  2. After installing the camera, close the trunk and test again. On some vehicles, the reverse light circuit may not work correctly when the trunk is open, which can prevent the camera from receiving power.

Camera Not Working — Please Identify Your Situation

1) Factory RGB Camera (If your original  camera works with RCD510 / RNS510 / RNS315)

If your vehicle is equipped with an original factory RGB camera, please identify the camera type:

1.1 Factory RGB camera (without trajectory / guidelines)

You can use our RGB to AV converter cable to make it compatible with RCD360 series units:

RGB to AV Converter Cable (Product Link)

1.2 Factory RGB camera (with trajectory / dynamic guidelines)

You will need a different adapter cable.
With this cable, the image can be displayed after upgrading to RCD360, but the trajectory (dynamic guidelines) will no longer be shown.

OEM RGB Camera Adapter (Trajectory Version)

2) Original Head Unit Was MIB System

If your original head unit was an MIB system, the factory rear camera is usually directly compatible with the RCD360 series and does not require any additional adapters.

3) Aftermarket / Third-Party Rear Camera

If you are using a third-party camera, please carefully verify the following requirements:

  • AV (CVBS) signal input
  • NTSC TV system
  • Designed for OEM head units (not Android-only systems)

Some cameras support AV signal but are designed only for Android head units and may not work with RCD360. Please confirm with the camera seller before installation.

7. “Trying to connect to iPod” / “No media found” (Wireless module not starting)

Cause: This may occur on first-time startup when CarPlay has not been successfully connected yet.

Solution:

  1. Go to Setup > Reset > Reset All to perform a factory reset.
  2. After reset, the unit will restart automatically.
  3. Tap the APP button on the main interface.
  4. Select CarPlay as the connection method.

After completing the steps above, the unit should work normally and the message should disappear.

8. Android Auto Calls: Microphone Not Working / No Sound During Calls

Explanation: Android Auto manages call volume separately from media volume. Unlike CarPlay, Android may require manual adjustment depending on the current mode.

Common causes & solutions:

  1. Call volume too low:
    • During a call, use your phone’s volume up button to increase call volume.
    • If you are not in an active call, volume adjustment may affect ringtone or media volume only.
  2. Bluetooth connection is required for calls:
    • Android Auto uses Bluetooth for phone calls even when connected via USB or wirelessly.
    • Make sure your phone is connected to the stereo via Bluetooth.
  3. Media volume vs. call volume:
    • Media volume (music) is different from call volume.
    • You must be in an active call to adjust call volume.
  4. Mic is OK but voice is not heard:
    • Check Android permissions (Microphone access).
    • Restart both your phone and the head unit.
9. Wireless CarPlay Unstable / Random Disconnects / Audio Randomly Mutes

Possible causes & solutions:

  1. USB cable interference:
    • Do not connect a USB cable while using Wireless CarPlay.
    • Connecting a cable may confuse the system and cause disconnections.
  2. Wireless module firmware:
    • If wireless performance is poor, you may need a firmware upgrade for the wireless CarPlay module.
    • We provide two versions of wireless modules. Please confirm which version you have before upgrading.
  3. Firmware upgrade notes:
    • Use mobile data only during the upgrade process.
    • Do not use Wi-Fi during the update to avoid failure or interruption.

Please use the image below to identify your module version and follow the correct instructions.
