RCD360 Battery Drain (Parasitic Drain) – Special Information Page

1. What is the “battery drain” issue?

In a small number of cases, after installing the RCD360 head unit, some users may notice one of the following situations after the vehicle is turned off and locked:

  • The vehicle battery discharges faster than normal, and the car may fail to start after being parked overnight or for several days;

  • The head unit does not fully enter sleep mode after ignition off and remains in a low-power working state, requiring manual power on/off.

These situations are commonly referred to as “battery drain” or “parasitic battery drain.”


2. Does the RCD360 itself cause battery drain?

No.
The RCD360 is not a high-power device. When installed correctly and connected according to factory specifications, its standby power consumption is equivalent to that of the original factory radio.

In most cases, battery drain issues are not caused by a hardware defect of the head unit, but are related to:

  • The condition of the vehicle’s original power wiring

  • CAN BUS communication status

  • Installation method and wiring configuration


3. Common causes of battery drain

1️⃣ Power not connected to the vehicle’s original main power connector

  • The vehicle previously had an Android head unit or aftermarket radio installed

  • The original wiring was modified and not restored

  • The RCD360 is connected to constant power (B+) instead of the factory-controlled power source

Result: The head unit cannot receive the correct sleep signal.


2️⃣ CAN BUS communication abnormality

  • CAN wires are loose, incorrectly connected, or not communicating properly

  • The vehicle fails to send a sleep command to the head unit

  • Common on some 2009–2017 PQ-platform vehicles

Result: The head unit remains in a “semi-awake” state.


3️⃣ Anti-battery-drain wire (yellow wire) not connected

  • The RCD360 package includes an anti-battery-drain (yellow) wire

  • This wire assists in cutting off standby power on certain vehicles

Result: Battery drain may occur on specific vehicle models if the wire is not connected.


4️⃣ Power cable pin misalignment or wiring issue (rare cases)

  • Pins may shift during transportation or installation

  • Individual wiring harness tolerance issues

Result: Abnormal power control behavior.


4. Standard troubleshooting & solution steps (follow in order)

✅ Step 1: Confirm power is connected to the original factory connector

  • Do not connect to secondary or modified power connectors

  • The unit must be connected directly to the vehicle’s original Quadlock / ISO power connector


✅ Step 2: Connect the anti-battery-drain (yellow) wire

  • Follow the user manual or official installation video:

  • In most cases, this step alone resolves the battery drain issue


✅ Step 3: Check CAN BUS communication

  • Ensure CAN wiring is properly connected and secure

  • For certain vehicles, a CAN decoder may improve communication stability


✅ Step 4: Test with a replacement power cable

  • Used to rule out individual harness defects
